DUBAI: The Emirates Environmental Group (EEG) recently concluded the 24th Cycle of Student Workshops, a three-day virtual event held from 21st to 23rd October. Under the theme “Reevaluating Reality: Discovering Our Sustainable City,” the workshops aimed to inspire and educate 433 students from 71 schools across the UAE, including both government and private institutions. The sessions targeted different age groups, with juniors (10-12 years) on Day 1, sub-seniors (13-15 years) on Day 2, and seniors (16-18 years) on the final day.

The workshops featured expert speakers who provided valuable insights on sustainability. Mariam Hamal from Hatta Honey led discussions on the importance of Bee Gardens and the role of bees in ecological balance. Her sessions, held over all three days, helped students understand the critical impact of bees on the environment.

Maya Taher, a Human Behavioral Expert and Mental Well-Being Corporate Trainer, delivered a session on “Mindful Living and Mental Health Awareness,” encouraging students to integrate mental health and sustainability for a holistic approach to well-being and environmental care.

On the final day, senior students were introduced to the concept of “Vertical Farming” by Patricia Hakim, Founder of DDD Consultancy Bureau. Her presentation explored innovative urban farming techniques, showcasing how cities can be transformed into sustainable food sources.

Students were actively engaged in discussions and feedback sessions, and many reported gaining new perspectives on sustainability. They appreciated the practical, fun, and informative activities, which made the learning experience enjoyable.

EEG’s Co-Founder and Chairperson, Habiba Al Mar’ashi, praised the workshops’ success, stating that the initiative helped raise awareness about sustainability and empowered students to take responsible environmental actions. The workshops reinforced EEG’s commitment to fostering a new generation of sustainability leaders equipped with practical tools to tackle global environmental challenges.
