ABU DHABI: The Year of Sustainability, under the tagline “Plan To Action,” has rolled out several exciting events and activities aimed at the public, focusing on four main areas: green transportation, reducing water and energy use, responsible consumption, and wise planting. These events, designed to involve both individuals and organizations across the UAE, aim to create a positive environmental impact through collective action.

Rauda Al Falasi, the Deputy Project Lead at the Year of Sustainability, emphasized that successful sustainability initiatives rely on collaboration. She explained that the goal is to inspire lasting change by encouraging actionable steps from everyone involved. The programme seeks to address sustainability challenges through everyday actions as well as larger commitments from organizations to create a ripple effect.

Several public events are scheduled from October until the end of the year to promote sustainable practices:

  1. Duroor Nights: In partnership with Sadeem Astronomy and the Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology, participants will explore the stars during a moonless night, essential for celestial observation. The event will have two sessions—an indoor one in Abu Dhabi and an outdoor camping session in the desert.
  2. From Farm to Haseer: This hands-on experience focuses on sustainability through local farming and traditional crafts. Activities include farm tours, interactive workshops on butter-making and cooking with locally-sourced ingredients, and community discussions about planting herbs.
  3. Mangrove Champions: A series of events will be organized for planting mangroves and cleaning up coastal areas across the UAE. Mangroves are crucial for reducing carbon emissions and protecting coastlines from erosion and flooding.

These initiatives aim to foster a sense of community and encourage everyone to take part in building a more sustainable future.
