DP World and Parkin introduce a smart parking system at Al Aweer Market to improve logistics, traffic flow and smart city integration.

DUBAI: DP World has partnered with Parkin to launch a state-of-the-art smart parking system at Al Aweer Central Fruit and Vegetable Market—Dubai’s largest wholesale fresh produce hub. The initiative will manage around 2,500 parking spaces for light vehicles and 500 trucks, streamlining logistics at one of the busiest food trading centres in the region.

This barrier-free, fully automated system uses license plate recognition and real-time monitoring to enhance parking flow, cut congestion, and improve overall site operations. It marks a key step in Dubai’s broader Smart City transformation, aligning infrastructure with future-ready logistics and urban planning goals.

Abdulla Bin Damithan, CEO & Managing Director, DP World GCC, said the system reflects the company’s commitment to end-to-end supply chain excellence. “In the perishables trade, every second counts. This collaboration with Parkin ensures market operations are smarter, faster and more efficient,” he said.

Parkin CEO Eng. Mohamed Abdulla Al Ali noted that the system will benefit thousands of daily market users by reducing congestion and optimising space. “Our goal is to make one of Dubai’s key commercial hubs more accessible and responsive to user needs, while supporting Smart City ambitions,” he added.

The launch follows a 2023 agreement between Dubai Municipality and DP World to transform the Al Aweer site into the world’s largest logistics hub for food trading, connecting it to international markets and doubling the current capacity of the market.

This smart parking system is expected to play a pivotal role in supporting traders, logistics operators, and supply chains by reducing wait times and enabling more predictable access—key to efficient perishables movement.
