Dubai RTA and Majid Al Futtaim opened a new bridge connecting Sheikh Zayed Road to Mall of the Emirates, enhancing mall access and traffic flow.
DUBAI: Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), in partnership with Majid Al Futtaim Properties, has opened a major new infrastructure link—a 300-metre bridge directly connecting Sheikh Zayed Road to Mall of the Emirates car parks. The bridge is designed to handle up to 900 vehicles per hour and is part of wider upgrades to improve traffic around one of Dubai’s busiest shopping destinations.
The bridge allows motorists arriving from Abu Dhabi and Jebel Ali to bypass internal roads and head straight into mall parking, reducing travel time from 10 minutes to just one. The project also upgraded surrounding roads, junctions, footpaths and cycling tracks, with enhancements to road surfacing, drainage and landscaping, ensuring a smoother, safer driving experience.
“The project reflects RTA’s strategy of collaborating with private sector developers to bolster Dubai’s road network around major commercial hubs,” said His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA. He added that the work included widening the southbound ramp at Umm Suqeim junction, improving access from Umm Suqeim Street to the existing mall bridge.
In addition to the new link, RTA improved 2.5 km of at-grade roads, six intersections, and converted the road near the Kempinski Hotel to a two-way route. The adjacent metro station’s bus stop was also upgraded.
RTA will next begin the Umm Suqeim Street Improvement Project, a 6 km overhaul featuring tunnels, four bridges, and major junction enhancements—further increasing road capacity and reducing congestion across key Dubai corridors.
These strategic improvements underscore RTA’s continued commitment to urban mobility and smart infrastructure development.
