DUBAI: The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has successfully completed all phases of the Al Khail Road Development Project. This major project involved constructing five bridges totaling 3,300 metres and widening roads over 6,820 metres. The upgrades span across seven key locations: Al Jaddaf, Business Bay, Zabeel, Meydan, Al Quoz 1, Ghadeer Al Tair, and Jumeirah Village Circle.

The project benefits around 1.5 million people, reducing travel time by 30% and increasing the capacity of intersections and bridges to handle about 19,600 vehicles per hour. These improvements help resolve traffic congestion at interchanges and ensure smoother traffic flow along Al Khail Road.

RTA employed a new strategy to speed up the construction process, cutting the construction time from 18 months to just 9 months – an impressive 80% reduction. By awarding contracts to multiple companies, the project involved a daily workforce of 5,000 engineers and labourers, working over six million hours with the help of 650 machines and equipment.

Al Khail Road is a vital artery in Dubai, connecting key roads such as Sheikh Zayed Road, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, and Emirates Road. It begins at Business Bay Crossing and ends at its junction with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, consisting of five lanes in each direction, with some sections widening to six lanes.

The project’s key elements include constructing bridges and widening roads to improve traffic flow across seven locations, such as Zabeel, Meydan, and Al Quoz 1. Each bridge and road expansion has been strategically designed to improve traffic capacity, reduce congestion, and enhance safety for motorists. These improvements have significantly upgraded the efficiency of Al Khail Road, ensuring smoother travel for Dubai’s growing population.
