DUBAI: Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has finished a major upgrade on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, specifically at Exit 55 leading to Al Rebat Street. They expanded the road by 600 metres, adding a new lane to make it three lanes in total. This project aims to boost the road network’s capacity and improve traffic safety in Dubai, keeping up with the city’s rapid growth.
The expansion at Exit 55 is a big deal. It directly improves traffic flow and safety. Before, only 3,000 vehicles could pass through per hour, but now, it can handle 4,500 vehicles per hour, a 50% increase. Travel time from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to Al Rebat Street towards Business Bay Crossing has dropped significantly—from 10 minutes to just 4 minutes, which is a 60% reduction.

This work on Exit 55 is part of RTA’s broader plan for 2024, which includes improvements at 45 different locations across Dubai. These projects are designed to support Dubai’s sustainable growth and enhance the happiness and well-being of its residents, helping Dubai become the best city to live in.
The RTA is dedicated to continuously developing and improving Dubai’s road network. They regularly update traffic solutions based on four main criteria: traffic studies, insights from control centres, public suggestions, and field observations by RTA teams. This ensures that the roads meet the needs of Dubai’s residents and visitors, making travel safer and more efficient for everyone.
