UAE has introduced a new rule called the ‘Private Teacher Work Permit’ which will allow teachers to give extra lessons to students after regular school hours.

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) and the Ministry of Education (MoE) launched this new permit on December 19 to stop illegal private tuition.

Who can benefit from this rule?
It includes teachers, employees, people without jobs, school students aged 15-18, and university students.

Why is this happening?
The UAE wants to make sure that private lessons are done in the right way, with qualified teachers, and to avoid any problems that might happen with illegal private lessons.

How can teachers apply?
Teachers can use the MoHRE’s smart application, website, or e-services system to apply for the Private Teacher Work Permit.

What does the permit allow?
The permit is given for two years for free. It lets qualified teachers give extra lessons, either one-on-one or in groups, and earn extra money. But, they have to follow the rules set by the ministry.

What happens if teachers don’t have the permit?
Teachers who give private lessons without this permit may have to pay fines or face penalties. The ministry has not said exactly how much the fines are or what the penalties will be.

What documents do teachers need?
Teachers need to provide a valid passport or Emirates ID, sign a code of conduct, show a certificate of good conduct, get a No Objection Certificate from their employer, get a No Objection Certificate from the student’s guardian, show a certificate of experience or diploma, and provide a photo with a white background.
