This is not the first change in the UAE visa system to be announced this year.

Earlier this month, the COVID-era visit visa extension rules were scrapped.

During the pandemic, rules were relaxed so visitors could extend their visit visas from within the UAE.

But pre-COVID measures have now been restored, meaning you will have to leave the country and travel back on a newly-issued visa if you want to extend your trip.

This does not apply to Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) citizens.

So if you’re from Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar or Saudi Arabia, you do not need a visa to enter the UAE.

If this applies to you, you can simply present your passport on arrival.
