Dubai: A recent study by Trends Research and Advisory highlights the potential risks associated with the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in information warfare. Titled “AI Pollution: The Future Threats of Information Warfare,” the study underscores the deliberate dissemination of misleading data into AI systems, termed as AI pollution, to manipulate their outputs.
The implications of AI pollution are significant, posing risks to governments, businesses, and individuals who increasingly rely on AI technology. The study advocates for a comprehensive regulatory framework to address these risks, proposing the “conduit” approach to guide AI development and ensure its harmonious integration while safeguarding against external threats.

Despite the positive aspects of existing regulations, such as the EU Artificial Intelligence Act, the study argues that they are insufficient in countering all the threats posed by AI pollution, particularly in combating sophisticated adversarial AI tactics.
As AI continues to evolve and permeate various aspects of life, the study emphasizes the importance of preparedness in tackling the emerging threats of AI pollution. It calls for proactive measures to mitigate these risks and maintain balance within complex socio-technological landscapes.
