DUBAI: Dubai South, the expansive development focused on aviation, logistics, and real estate, has announced the successful completion of the initial stage of autonomous vehicle trials in collaboration with Evocargo.

These trials took place within a designated area of the Dubai South Logistics District. Evocargo conducted rigorous checks and validations on its unmanned electric truck, the Evocargo N1, to assess its hardware, software, and overall reliability for future deployment in the district.

The tests primarily focused on autonomous navigation along a predefined route, ensuring safety in various traffic scenarios involving interactions with vehicles, trucks, and pedestrians. Evaluations included object detection, accident prevention, collision avoidance, and emergency stop capabilities.

The Evocargo N1 was tested extensively for manoeuvres such as parking, reversing, turning, and reverse turning using its autopilot system. The functionality of the control centre, responsible for route management, remote monitoring, and control, was also scrutinised during the trials. Importantly, no failures or unsafe incidents occurred throughout the testing phases.

Evocargo compiled a detailed report summarising the results from both trial stages. In the second stage, the Evocargo N1 successfully executed freight transportation tasks on a standard route within a closed area, demonstrating its ability to operate effectively in mixed traffic environments.

Mohsen Ahmad, CEO of the Logistics District at Dubai South, expressed pride in achieving this significant milestone, underscoring Dubai South’s dedication to supporting the UAE leadership’s vision of establishing Dubai as a global logistics hub. He highlighted the partnership with Evocargo as pivotal in advancing the regional logistics sector through technological innovation.

The collaboration between Dubai South and Evocargo began with a memorandum of understanding signed in December 2022, marking a strategic initiative towards enhancing logistics capabilities in the UAE through autonomous vehicle technologies.
