ABU DHABI: The race to develop stronger AI capabilities is driving a massive need for infrastructure. To meet this demand, BlackRock, Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP), Microsoft, and MGX have launched the Global AI Infrastructure Investment Partnership (GAIIP). This partnership aims to invest in building and expanding data centres, providing the computing power needed to support AI’s rapid growth.

MGX, Microsoft, BlackRock, GIP launch AI partnership for data centre investments

H.H. Sheikh Tahnoun bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Ruler of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of MGX, highlighted the importance of AI for the future of economies, stating that AI is not just an industry of the future but a foundation for it. He emphasized that the investments made today will lead to faster innovation and a more sustainable, prosperous future.

GAIIP will operate with an open architecture, offering access to a wide range of partners. It will also collaborate with industry leaders like NVIDIA, which will provide expertise in AI data centres and AI factories. The partnership is expected to unlock $30 billion in private equity capital and mobilise up to $100 billion in total investment, including debt financing.

The founders, including BlackRock, GIP, MGX, and Microsoft, bring a wealth of expertise in infrastructure, technology, energy, and decarbonisation to efficiently scale AI-related infrastructure.

Larry Fink, CEO of BlackRock, and Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft, both expressed optimism that this partnership will help fuel economic growth, create jobs, and power AI technology innovation. Brad Smith, President of Microsoft, added that the financial commitment required for AI infrastructure exceeds what any single company or government can achieve, making this partnership crucial.

NVIDIA’s founder Jensen Huang noted the growing need for AI infrastructure and how their expertise will support GAIIP’s mission. MGX, created in Abu Dhabi earlier this year, focuses on AI infrastructure and advanced technologies, making today’s announcement a major milestone in enabling global AI infrastructure.
