REDMOND: Microsoft is reshaping the browser experience with the introduction of a new experimental Copilot Mode in Edge, blending advanced artificial intelligence into daily web browsing. This latest update aims to enhance user productivity and streamline digital tasks through AI integration.
Currently in testing, Copilot Mode enables Microsoft’s AI assistant to access all open tabs in the browser, allowing users to perform comparisons, summaries, and bookings directly from within Edge. Whether it’s evaluating hotels, comparing shopping options, or reserving a table at a restaurant, the mode simplifies complex web-based tasks.
The new feature also supports voice commands, enabling users to navigate sites or open dedicated comparison tabs hands-free. With user permission, Copilot may soon be able to access browsing history and saved credentials, unlocking the potential for automated bookings and transactions.
Copilot Mode is optional and can be turned on or off in the browser’s settings. Users who choose not to enable it will continue using Edge without changes. Microsoft has assured that privacy settings and user controls will remain central to the feature’s design.
The upgrade also includes Copilot Vision, a tool that helps organise browsing activities, both past and present, for greater context and user control. While currently free for users during the testing phase, some features may later be linked to a paid subscription.
This step reflects Microsoft’s ongoing push to make AI tools more accessible and integrated into everyday software, reinforcing its position at the forefront of the productivity-tech space.
