The UAE Space Agency and EDGE launched a 10-week programme to train Emirati engineers in satellite and mission operations, supporting UAE’s space sector growth.

ABU DHABI: The UAE Space Agency’s National Space Academy has launched a new Space Mission and Satellite Engineering (SMSE) programme in partnership with EDGE Group, marking a significant leap in training local talent for the nation’s expanding space ambitions.

Developed in collaboration with EDGE entities BEACON RED and FADA, the ten-week SMSE programme is designed to equip Emirati professionals, researchers, and recent graduates with world-class expertise in satellite mission design, engineering, and operations. It aims to build a new generation of UAE satellite engineers, system architects, and mission leaders.

Running from 16 September to 20 November 2025, the programme blends in-person technical training with online modules delivered by international and local experts. Training will take place across the UAE Space Agency headquarters, BEACON RED’s advanced facility, and FADA’s satellite labs.

Participants will explore five core modules—Designing Space Missions, Applied Space Systems Engineering, Space System Verification and Validation, Space Mission Operations, and a capstone Central Case Project that simulates a full satellite mission design cycle.

Eng. Salem Butti Salem Al Qubaisi, Director General of the UAE Space Agency, said the initiative is a key step in building sustainable, locally led space capabilities. “We are committed to training young local cadres and honing their skills according to the highest international standards,” he said.

EDGE’s President of Space & Cyber Technologies, Waleid Al Mesmari, added: “This programme delivers hands-on experience and world-class knowledge while laying the foundation for future space missions led by capable Emirati professionals.”

The SMSE programme targets UAE nationals working in government or private space-sector roles, academic researchers in STEM fields, and qualified graduates with a bachelor’s degree or higher.
