WhatsApp has released its first full Apple Watch app with voice messaging, call alerts, message reactions, and media support, requiring watchOS 10 or later.

CUPERTINO: WhatsApp has officially rolled out a new, feature-rich app for Apple Watch, bringing long-requested functionality to users’ wrists. The update enables users to stay connected without needing to reach for their iPhone — a major convenience boost for those on the go.

The new app allows users to read and reply to full messages, including lengthy texts. It also includes call notifications, meaning you can now see who’s calling directly on your watch. WhatsApp also supports recording and sending voice messages, and introduces the ability to react to messages using emoji, a feature that’s long been popular on mobile.

Additionally, the Apple Watch experience now displays clear images and stickers, enhancing media interactions. Users can also scroll through extended chat history, improving conversation continuity.

Meta, WhatsApp’s parent company, says the app was designed to deliver a seamless experience on Apple Watch Series 4 and later, running watchOS 10 or newer. Privacy remains a key focus, with all messages and calls continuing to be protected by end-to-end encryption.

“WhatsApp on Apple Watch is just getting started,” the company said in its announcement. “We’re committed to building more functionality to help people stay connected wherever they are.”

The app is now available through the Apple Watch App Store and requires pairing with a supported iPhone to function fully.
