The Arialah Dhow Race (60ft) will launch on October 3 in Abu Dhabi with 90 dhows and AED4.2 million in prizes to celebrate UAE maritime heritage.

ABU DHABI: The iconic Arialah Dhow Race (60ft category) is set to sail again on 3rd October, bringing together over 90 traditional sailing dhows under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in Al Dhafra Region. Organised by the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club, the race will cover a challenging 25-nautical-mile course.

With a total prize purse of AED4,238,000 distributed across the top 90 finishers, the event continues to stand out as one of the most prestigious dhow sailing competitions in the region. The rich incentives are designed to encourage participation and sustain the cultural traditions of the UAE’s historic seafaring communities.

The 60ft dhow category is widely considered the crown jewel of traditional sailing, known for its high-speed strategy, long-distance navigation, and intense rivalries among veteran captains. The Arialah Race honours the legacy of the nation’s maritime past while showcasing the endurance and expertise of today’s sailors.

According to organisers, this year’s event promises to draw a strong crowd of spectators and marine sports fans. The competition is not only a test of seamanship but a vivid display of UAE identity, preserving the sailing customs passed down through generations.

With every sail hoisted, the Arialah Dhow Race carries forward the timeless story of the nation’s connection to the sea, combining modern excellence with cultural pride.
