ABU DHABI: The UAE’s Commando Group emerged victorious at the Abu Dhabi World Amateur Jiu-Jitsu Championship, part of the larger Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship in its 16th edition. Competing in the blue and white belt categories for athletes aged 30 and above, Commando Group built on its past performance to claim the top spot. Brazil’s Checkmat International secured second place, followed by the Kazakhstan National Academy in third.

This year’s championship saw a notable rise in participation, which elevated the competition’s technical level and emphasised jiu-jitsu’s positive impact on physical, mental, and social well-being.
The event attracted several dignitaries, including Mohamed Salem Al Dhaheri, Vice Chairman of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation; Amal Abdul Qadir Al Afifi, Secretary-General of the Khalifa Award for Education; Rashed Saif Al Qubaisi, Group COO of PureHealth; and Yousef Abdullah Al Batran, UAEJJF Board Member. These dignitaries honoured the winners and celebrated the event’s significance in promoting jiu-jitsu both locally and internationally.

Amal Abdul Qadir Al Afifi praised the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, stating, “The Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship exemplifies Abu Dhabi’s commitment to global sports, positioning the city as a hub for elite athletes and fostering cross-cultural exchange. It serves as a model for high-level sports experiences, attracting competitors of all ages.”
She highlighted the inclusive environment the Federation has created, allowing athletes to refine their skills and enjoy an inspiring competitive atmosphere. “This championship underscores the Federation’s success in popularising jiu-jitsu and expanding its reach worldwide.”

Mubarak Saleh Al-Menhali, Director of the Technical Department at UAEJJF, remarked that the strong turnout reflects jiu-jitsu’s growing appeal across communities. He noted that these athletes exemplify resilience and dedication, inspiring younger generations to embrace jiu-jitsu as a means to build a balanced lifestyle.
