AMMAN: The UAE National Jiu-Jitsu Team kicked off its campaign at the 9th Asian Jiu-Jitsu Championship with a stellar performance, earning a total of seven medals. Competing at Prince Hamzah Hall in Al Hussein Youth City, Amman, the team—sponsored by Mubadala Investment Company—captured two golds, two silvers, and three bronze medals, underlining the nation’s dominance in the sport.
The wins contribute significantly to the growing tally of UAE Jiu-Jitsu medals at international events. Theyab Al Nuaimi claimed gold in the 56kg category, while Mohamed Ali Al Suwaidi secured the top spot in the 69kg division. Omar Al Suwaidi (56kg) and Khaled Al Shehhi (62kg) earned silver, with bronze medals going to Mehdi Al Awlaki (77kg), Hazza Al Qubaisi (85kg), and Faraj Al Awlaki (94kg).
Fahad Ali Al Shamsi, Secretary-General of both the UAE and Asian Jiu-Jitsu Federations, credited the strong results to the sustained backing of UAE leadership and the strategic support of Mubadala. “The consistent success of UAE Jiu-Jitsu medals is a testament to the athletes’ commitment, robust training, and excellent coordination between technical and administrative teams,” he said.
Head Coach Helder Medeiros praised the athletes for their discipline and highlighted the increasing competition across Asia. He confirmed that the team is rigorously preparing for the upcoming women’s and under-21 events.
Gold medallist Theyab Al Nuaimi said his win was a proud achievement and a reflection of the team’s hard work. He also acknowledged the key role of coaching staff and the federation’s support in strengthening the UAE’s international presence in the sport.
