SHARJAH: The Sharjah Institute for Heritage (SIH) is actively engaged in promoting awareness of Emirati heritage and identity through a series of educational events and initiatives. Dr. Abdulaziz A Musallam, Chairman of SIH, emphasized the deep connection between the UAE’s rich cultural heritage and its societal values.
SIH conducts lectures and events at its headquarters to enrich community understanding of Emirati heritage as a cornerstone of national identity. Aisha Ghabish, Director of the Department of Events and Activities, highlighted the institute’s comprehensive heritage programme, particularly active during the summer break.
The campaign commenced with a focus on maritime heritage from July 3rd to 4th. This included a session led by Emirati researcher Juma Bin Thalith, exploring marine environments and associated customs. An accompanying exhibition showcased maritime traditions, while the Bin Majid Society for Folk Arts and Rowing performed traditional songs, involving children in interactive activities like storytelling and pottery painting.

Upcoming events from July 8th to 11th will feature workshops and lectures aimed at enhancing awareness of Emirati heritage vocabulary. These efforts build upon SIH’s broader summer programme, launched in mid-May, which encompasses diverse activities promoting Sharjah’s heritage and culture.
The institute’s initiatives reflect its commitment to preserving Emirati heritage, fostering community harmony, and instilling pride in local values. By integrating educational activities with cultural experiences, SIH continues to play a vital role in strengthening societal bonds and preserving the UAE’s unique heritage for future generations.
