LONDON: The world of 007 is shaking, not stirring! The James Bond franchise is officially moving under Amazon MGM Studios, ending decades of family-run control. Longtime producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson are stepping back, handing creative control to Amazon MGM while co-owning the rights.
Wilson, after nearly 60 years with Bond, is retiring to focus on art and charity. “Barbara and I agree—it’s time for Amazon MGM to lead Bond into the future,” he stated.
Amazon’s $6.1 billion purchase of MGM Studios in 2022 was largely driven by Bond’s box office legacy, worth $7.6 billion over 25 films. However, since Daniel Craig’s exit in No Time to Die (2021), tension brewed between Broccoli and Amazon over Bond’s next chapter.
This shift marks the first time in over 50 years that a Broccoli won’t be picking the next 007 or approving new Bond films. Fans are curious—and a little nervous—about how James Bond franchise by Amazon MGM will handle the iconic spy.
While Bond will still hit cinemas, Amazon’s streaming empire raises questions. Will Bond remain a big-screen spectacle, or will he join Marvel and Star Wars in the streaming spin-off race? Even Joe Russo (Avengers: Endgame co-director) issued a plea: “DON’T cinematic universe James Bond.”
With no script, no director, and no new Bond actor announced, the next era of 007 remains a mystery. Rumors suggest that actors such as Dev Patel, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Henry Cavill, Daniel Kaluuya, and Josh O’Connor are in consideration to revive the spy series. But one thing is certain: James Bond will return.
