ABU DHABI: In honour of World Organ Donation Day, the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH) has announced that over 800 organ transplants have been successfully carried out in Abu Dhabi since the Hayat Programme began at the end of 2023.

The Hayat Programme has led to a 56% increase in organ donations and a 36% rise in transplants in Abu Dhabi in 2023 compared to the previous year. This includes 422 kidney transplants, 259 liver transplants, 41 lung transplants, 22 heart transplants, 14 pancreas transplants, and 51 multi-organ transplants. These procedures, performed using advanced robotic and medical technologies, involved both living and deceased donors.

Dr. Noura Khamis Al Ghaithi, Under-Secretary of DoH, highlighted that Abu Dhabi is now a global leader in organ transplantation, thanks to its advanced facilities and dedicated healthcare professionals. She emphasised that organ donation is a noble act that saves lives and brings hope, reflecting deep community solidarity.

Transplants are conducted at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, Burjeel Medical City, and Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City.
