The Al Dhafra Dates Festival celebrates Emirati agricultural heritage, boosting local date production, sustainability, and international cooperation.
AL DHAFRA: The Al Dhafra Dates Festival and Auction continues to shine as a major cultural and agricultural platform in the UAE, celebrating the nation’s agricultural heritage while encouraging innovation in the palm cultivation sector. Held in Al Dhafra, this year’s edition reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to preserving its deep-rooted traditions in date farming and promoting global awareness of Emirati date varieties.
Organised by the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority in partnership with the Serh Group, the 4th edition of the Liwa Dates Festival and Auction concluded today, after drawing significant participation from farmers, producers, and regional guests. Through more than 21 themed competitions—ranging from best dates and honey to packaging and photography—the festival awarded over AED5.56 million in prizes, honouring excellence and innovation in Emirati agriculture.
The event served as a dynamic marketplace and knowledge-sharing platform, offering farmers marketing opportunities and exposure to advanced agricultural technologies. It included workshops, art exhibitions, a heritage market, and live auctions for premium Emirati date varieties. A special highlight was the participation of Morocco as Guest of Honour, symbolising strong bilateral agricultural ties. Morocco’s pavilion featured a variety of its finest dates, allowing visitors to explore and purchase directly from producers.
Also featured was the Honey Village, spotlighting local beekeepers and their unique honey products. This initiative boosted awareness about native honey varieties while encouraging local production.
With the palm tree recognised as a symbol of generosity and sustainability, the festival showcased its central place in Emirati culture, economy, and food security. It promoted sustainable agricultural development, encouraged best practices in packaging and marketing, and enhanced the international competitiveness of Emirati dates.
By blending heritage with innovation, the Al Dhafra Dates Festival is now an internationally recognised platform that uplifts the UAE’s agricultural legacy and supports the future of date production in global markets.
