ABU DHBAI: Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the 23rd edition of the Zayed Charity Run 2024 took place on Saturday at Earth Abu Dhabi, starting at 7:00 AM. The event saw over 10,000 runners of all ages and nationalities participating to raise funds for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
With a prize pool of AED 1.5 million, the run encouraged inclusivity by offering AED 750,000 each for both Emirati and international winners. Since its beginning in the early 2000s, the run has grown into a leading charity event, raising AED 638 million for medical support and awareness.
The day’s races began with a 10km race for people of determination at 7:00 AM, followed by the 10km professional race and 5km professional race. Other races included the 10km open race, 5km open race, 3km open race, and 1km race, with the winners’ ceremony held at 9:00 AM. The run attracted global participation, with the largest contingents coming from the UAE (38%), India (14%), and the Philippines (7%).
The organising committee confirmed that all preparations were in place to ensure the event’s success. Lt. General (Retd.) Mohammed Hilal Al Kaabi, Chairman of the Higher Organising Committee, emphasized the event’s global significance and alignment with the UAE’s humanitarian values. It was held in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, continuing the legacy of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
A fan village was set up with activities such as performances by the Abu Dhabi Police Band, food stalls, and booths from key health organizations, ensuring a family-friendly atmosphere. Shuttle services and parking were available for participants.
