Jakarta: The Makkah Route Initiative exemplifies Saudi Arabia’s significant efforts to assist pilgrims from all over the world, ensuring they perform their Hajj rituals with the utmost comfort and ease, according to a report by agencies on Monday.
The Saudi Ministry of Interior has been implementing the initiative for six consecutive years at 11 airports in seven countries: Morocco, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Turkiye, and Côte d’Ivoire. To date, the initiative has served 617,756 pilgrims.
The Makkah Route Initiative facilitates the process by issuing visas electronically, collecting biometric data, and completing all travel procedures at the departure airports. This includes ensuring the pilgrims’ health and well-being, coding, and sorting baggage according to transportation and accommodation arrangements in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Many Indonesian pilgrims interviewed by agencies at Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport praised the initiative. They expressed their hope that it would continue for many years, simplifying travel to the Kingdom and facilitating the performance of Hajj.
