Dubai: Dhai Dubai, the inaugural Emirati-led light art festival, is set to captivate visitors at Expo City Dubai and Al Wasl Plaza with a vibrant lineup of cultural activities. Presented by Expo City Dubai in collaboration with AGB Creative and supported by the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, the festival invites attendees to explore seven stunning light art installations, showcasing the diverse narratives and creative expressions of the city. Renowned artists and designers, including Mattar Bin Lahej, Dr. Najat Makki, Dr. Mohamed Yousif, Abdalla Almulla, Maitha Hamdan, Khalid Al Shafar, and Reem Al Ghaith, will contribute to the visual spectacle.
Taking place from January 26 to February 4, 2024, Dhai Dubai promises an inclusive program for all ages, featuring illuminating talks, educational workshops, breathtaking projections, and immersive experiences.
One of the festival’s highlights is the “Sisters of the Desert Projections,” a tribute to Emirati women who have made a significant impact on the art scene, particularly honoring the late Dhabia Juma Lamlah. Known for her resilience and artistic expression despite physical challenges, Lamlah’s story will be showcased through projections at Al Wasl Plaza, alongside works from international guest artists like Rene Kulitja and Dr. Esther Mahlangu.
Dhai Dubai also embraces a joint mission with the Liter of Light initiative, aligning with Expo 2020’s legacy of creating a better future. Partnering with this global movement, the festival will host workshops to craft solar lights, which will be distributed to communities in the Philippines. Visitors can also contribute to locations in Kenya, Cameroon, and India, reinforcing the festival’s belief in the transformative power of light to uplift communities.
Beyond the visual displays, immersive experiences like Solar Canopy, driven by guests cycling on stationary bikes, and Elysian Arcs, blending curved structures with color and light, promise a multi-sensory journey. Dhai Dubai’s Knowledge Programme further allows visitors to engage in in-depth discussions, gain professional insights, and participate in interactive workshops, ensuring a holistic and enriching experience for all.
