Legendary composer AR Rahman and his wife Saira Banu have announced their separation after 29 years of marriage, leaving fans shocked and emotional. The announcement, made jointly on Tuesday evening, comes as a surprise to many, given the couple’s long-standing bond often admired in the public eye.
The news quickly spread across social media, with fans expressing their support and sending heartfelt messages to the family. The couple has three children—Khatija, Raheema, and Ameen—who have shared their first reactions following the announcement.
Ameen wrote a note on Stories: “We kindly request everyone to respect our privacy during this time. Thank you for your understanding.” Khatija, a singer, shared her own statement on Instagram Stories. “I would greatly appreciate it if this matter could be treated with the utmost privacy and respect. Thank you for your consideration.” Raheem shared a screenshot of Rahman’s tweet and added, “Keep us in your prayers.”

Rahman shared a statement on Twitter after midnight Tuesday, “We had hoped to reach the grand thirty, but all things, it seems, carry an unseen end. Even the throne of God might tremble at the weight of broken hearts. Yet, in this shattering, we seek meaning, though the pieces may not find their place again. To our friends, thank you for your kindness and for respecting our privacy as we walk through this fragile chapter.”
