The DP World ILT20 Development Tournament 2025 kicks off on 24 August in Dubai, offering UAE cricketers a prime showcase opportunity.
DUBAI: The much-anticipated third edition of the DP World ILT20 Development Tournament is set to begin on Sunday, 24 August 2025, at the ICC Academy Oval 1 in Dubai. This year’s 18-match event will see six competitive squads—Abu Dhabi Knight Riders Development, Desert Vipers Development, Dubai Capitals Development, Gulf Giants Development, MI Emirates Development, and Sharjah Warriorz Development—battle it out in a single-league, round-robin format.
Defending champions Gulf Giants Development will be looking to retain their crown, while all teams will select their 15-member squads exclusively from UAE players via the Player Selection Draft on 18 August at Dubai International Stadium. Each franchise in the main DP World ILT20 Season 4 must include at least four UAE players, making the development tournament a vital scouting ground.

Tournament Director Andrew Russell highlighted the importance of the event, citing past success stories such as Farhan Ahmed and Saghir Khan, who graduated from the development tournament to shine in the main league. “This edition is the biggest opportunity yet for new talent, especially with national players busy in the Sharjah Tri-Series and ACC Men’s T20 Asia Cup,” he said.
The DP World ILT20 Development Tournament not only offers young cricketers the chance to impress but also feeds directly into the high-profile Season 4, which kicks off on 2 December 2025—UAE National Day—with a blockbuster opener and concludes on 4 January 2026. The Season 4 Player Auction will be held shortly after the Asia Cup, with 78 slots open for local players.
With an action-packed schedule and strong franchise involvement, the competition is poised to be a stepping stone for many aspiring cricketers aiming for international recognition.
