DUBAI: In the presence of the Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai, a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Dubai Media Council and the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority. This agreement aims to enhance collaboration in using drones for media-related filming operations as part of the Dubai From the Sky initiative.
The MoU is designed to facilitate drone-based media operations in Dubai by streamlining processes and expediting permit issuance, particularly for events needing timely media coverage. The two entities will work closely to achieve these goals.
The agreement was signed by the Vice Chairperson and Managing Director of the Dubai Media Council and the Director-General of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority. The Vice Chairperson expressed gratitude for the partnership, highlighting the importance of empowering media professionals to produce high-quality content. She noted that the media plays a vital role in shaping society and reiterated the council’s commitment to providing the necessary tools and support for professionals in a rapidly evolving landscape.
With the rapid advancement of technology, there is a growing need for skilled professionals who can effectively use new media tools. The creative potential of drone photography was emphasised, underscoring the council’s dedication to equipping media professionals with resources that enhance innovation and content quality.
The Director-General stated that the MoU signifies a commitment to support key sectors, including media, while ensuring a secure environment for using advanced technologies. Media is viewed as an essential platform for showcasing the region’s cultural identity and achievements, making partnerships crucial for enhancing content in a changing environment.

The collaboration will include training programmes for drone operators, covering technical and safety aspects to ensure operations do not interfere with airspace. Additionally, both parties will identify suitable locations for aerial filming, maintaining air traffic safety.
