Professor Omar Yaghi, 2025 Nobel Prize winner in chemistry, thanked Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for his continued support of science and innovation in Saudi Arabia.
RIYADH: Professor Omar Yaghi, the 2025 Nobel Prize winner in Chemistry, has extended heartfelt thanks to His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, for the sustained national support that enabled his groundbreaking scientific achievements.
Yaghi, a pioneer in reticular chemistry, expressed his appreciation for the leadership’s commitment to research, development, and innovation, particularly under the Vision 2030 framework that aims to position the Kingdom as a global knowledge hub.
He specifically credited the Supreme Committee for Research, Development and Innovation, chaired by the Crown Prince, for championing his scientific journey. “This recognition is not just personal — it belongs to all Saudi and Arab scientists,” said Yaghi, adding that he hopes the award will inspire future generations of Saudi and Arab youth to pursue careers in science and discovery.
He also acknowledged the King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) and the KACST-UC Berkeley Center of Excellence, which have provided critical support over the years.
Yaghi’s Nobel-winning work in reticular chemistry has led to revolutionary applications in energy storage, environmental sustainability, water desalination, and carbon capture, cementing his place among the most influential chemists of the 21st century. He is the first Saudi scientist to receive a Nobel Prize, marking a historic achievement for the Kingdom.
His win has sparked national pride and global recognition, reinforcing Saudi Arabia’s growing reputation as a rising leader in science and technology.
