Arabian Travel Market 2025 highlights Middle East tourism resilience with sustainability, innovation, and cross-sector collaboration to shape future travel.
Dubai: Middle East tourism resilience took centre stage at Arabian Travel Market (ATM) 2025 as regional leaders addressed a rapidly changing global travel environment. In response to climate change, shifting consumer demands, and geopolitical shifts, destinations across the Middle East are redefining tourism through innovation, safety, and sustainability.
With international tourist arrivals reaching 1.4 billion in 2024, the Middle East led the global rebound, exceeding 2019 figures by 32%, according to UN Tourism. This performance underlines the region’s agility and strong recovery strategy.
At a key panel titled “Redefining Tourism Products in Uncertain Times,” hosted in partnership with the Global Travel & Tourism Resilience Council, experts explored how regional destinations are preserving cultural and environmental assets while appealing to modern travellers. Hon. Ghada Shalaby of the Egyptian Hotel Association noted Egypt’s tailored health and safety strategies, saying: “We wanted to tailor make our approach to the tour operators and to the end consumer… especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Cruise sector representatives also highlighted the adoption of stringent environmental regulations, particularly in ecologically sensitive areas like the Red Sea. Delegates discussed how misperceptions fuelled by general media and outdated advisories impact demand and insurance uptake, underscoring the need for strategic communication.
Ibrahim Osta of Chemonics International stressed the influence of media narratives, commenting: “What the media reports has an implication on the interest in that market.”
Speakers advocated for cross-border itineraries, green investments, and storytelling that better reflects realities on the ground. Danielle Curtis, ATM’s Exhibition Director, said: “ATM serves as an essential platform for cross-sector dialogue… contributing to a more connected and resilient tourism ecosystem.”
ATM 2025, themed “Global Travel: Developing Tomorrow’s Tourism Through Enhanced Connectivity”, continues at DWTC, welcoming 55,000 professionals from 166 countries and featuring 2,800+ exhibitors.
