Sharjah launches Child Safety Foundation to enhance protection and support for children across the emirate.

Sharjah: His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, has issued a decree establishing the Child Safety Foundation in Sharjah. This new institution, legally independent and under the Sharjah Family and Community Council’s supervision, aims to safeguard children across the emirate.

The Foundation, chaired by Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, will coordinate with local and international authorities to promote child protection and raise awareness about child safety. Its headquarters are in Sharjah city, with authority to open branches elsewhere.

Key objectives include ensuring children’s mental health and physical safety, expanding protection resources, and upholding children’s rights to be heard and feel secure. The Foundation will develop policies, strategic plans, and programmes related to child safety, and advise authorities on regulations and legislation.

It will provide a specialised environment for children affected by violence or abuse, offering legal, social, psychological, and medical services. The Foundation also supervises the newly established Kanaf Child Centre, which integrates support and forensic medical examinations for abused children.

Training and empowerment of multidisciplinary teams will be ongoing, with workshops and awareness programmes for professionals, parents, and caregivers. The Foundation will host international experts to help develop best practices locally.

Financially, the Foundation is funded through government allocations, its own revenues, investments, and sponsorships, all used under Chairperson approval.

This initiative positions Sharjah as a regional leader in child protection, committed to building a safe and supportive environment for all children.
