Shah Rukh Khan’s Meer Foundation, with local NGOs, is providing relief kits to 1,500 flood-affected families across Punjab districts.

PUNJAB: Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has stepped forward to support families devastated by severe flooding in Punjab. His charitable organisation, the Meer Foundation, has partnered with local NGOs to deliver urgent relief to those in need, offering essentials to help affected communities recover with dignity.

The initiative is targeting 1,500 households across Amritsar, Patiala, Fazilka, and Firozpur districts. Each relief kit includes medicines, hygiene supplies, food items, mosquito nets, tarpaulin sheets, folding beds, cotton mattresses, and other critical goods to address immediate needs of health, safety, and shelter.

Punjab is currently battling one of its worst floods in years, with thousands of families displaced. Relief and rehabilitation efforts are ongoing, with government agencies and NGOs working around the clock to restore normalcy.

NGOs partnering in the effort have praised Shah Rukh Khan’s involvement. The Roundglass Foundation expressed gratitude, noting that with his support, they were able to reach nearly 5,000 people in flood-affected villages across Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Fazilka, and Firozpur.

On September 3, Shah Rukh Khan shared a heartfelt message on X, formerly Twitter: “My heart goes out to those in Punjab impacted by these devastating floods. Sending prayers and strength… The spirit of Punjab shall never break… may God bless them all.”

The initiative has also drawn support from other stars. Singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh has adopted ten of the worst-hit villages in Gurdaspur and Amritsar, while actor Ammy Virk has pledged support for 200 households. Actor Sonu Sood, long active in humanitarian work, has also joined relief efforts. Bollywood personalities including Vicky Kaushal, Suniel Shetty, Sunny Deol, and Kareena Kapoor Khan, alongside cricketers Yuvraj Singh, Shubman Gill, and Harbhajan Singh, have expressed solidarity with the victims.

Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced that he will hold a review meeting to assess medical facilities, compensation measures, and long-term solutions for flood management.

Shah Rukh Khan’s relief work highlights the power of collective action, showing how celebrities and local organisations can unite to support communities in crisis.

Punjab has been grappling with one of its worst flood disasters in recent years, triggered by relentless heavy rainfall that inundated towns, villages, and farmland. Rivers overflowing their banks and breached embankments have displaced tens of thousands of residents, forcing families into temporary shelters and leaving many without access to clean water, electricity, or basic healthcare.

Vast stretches of fertile farmland have been submerged, destroying crops and livestock, and threatening the livelihoods of thousands of farmers. Roads and infrastructure have been severely damaged, hampering relief efforts and isolating rural communities. The floods have also increased the risk of waterborne diseases, making immediate medical and humanitarian aid critical to protect vulnerable populations across the state.
