Eighteen-year-old Madison Crowell from Georgia has made headlines after garnering an astounding $15 million in scholarship offers and securing acceptances from a staggering 231 universities across the United States. In an interview with an agency, Crowell attributed her remarkable achievement to her determination to demonstrate that anyone can gain admission to their desired college.
While the exact amount she will receive from these scholarships remains undisclosed, Crowell disclosed that she has selected High Point University in North Carolina as her choice for higher education. Expressing her enthusiasm for this decision, she affirmed that it was “one of the best decisions I’ve made in my life”.
She told agencies: “I want to show the kids here in Liberty County that it’s possible to get accepted into not only just local schools… but that you can get accepted into schools… that you think might be out of your reach.”
According to the Census data, around 14% of the 69,000 people in Liberty County live below the poverty line.
High Point University’s president, Nido Qubein, said: “We are excited to welcome Madison. She is going to do exceptional things.”
Crowell’s journey towards this feat began in middle school, accompanied by her parents on university visits. She intends to pursue a science degree at High Point University and ultimately obtain a doctorate in physical therapy.
However, her journey was not without setbacks, as she faced rejections from a handful of universities, including the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Tulane University, and Colorado College.
“I know what it’s like to be deferred from a dream school and you don’t know if you’re going to get the chance to apply again or you’re not going to be accepted again,” she said.
“Always keep a positive sight on these things because it can get a little overwhelming,” she advised other teenagers, adding that it was important to make “sure that you’re keeping yourself sane and having outlets to release some energy.”
