UAE uses AI to build comprehensive Arabic language resources, including Falcon Arabic, historical dictionary, and digital learning tools.
ABU DHABI: The United Arab Emirates is using artificial intelligence to build some of the world’s most comprehensive Arabic language resources. From AI-powered dictionaries to smart language models, the UAE is leading digital innovation in Arabic education and cultural preservation. These advanced systems are central to building modern Arabic language resources.
A key part of this vision is Falcon Arabic, developed by the Advanced Technology Research Council. It is a powerful AI model built to understand and process dialects, classical texts, and modern language usage with high accuracy.
In Sharjah, the Arabic Language Academy has partnered with the Emirates Scholar Research Centre to launch the GPT-powered Historical Dictionary of the Arabic Language. With over 20 million entries, it is one of the largest AI-assisted language databases in the Arab world.
Meanwhile, the Digital Knowledge Hub by the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation holds over 800,000 digital books and more than 8.5 million educational items, enriching Arabic content across the region.
The Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre has also developed a smart Arabic–English dictionary. It features 7,000+ terms with pronunciation, usage examples, images, and grammar notes—making Arabic language resources more accessible to learners.
In the academic sector, NYU Abu Dhabi and Zayed University have created the Balanced Arabic Readability Corpus (BAREC), a dataset of 10 million words that supports AI literacy tools and research in Arabic linguistics.
These initiatives confirm the UAE’s role as a global leader in modernising Arabic language resources with AI.
