DUBAI: Dubai has officially become the first Certified Autism Destination™ in the Eastern Hemisphere, marking a major step in making tourism more inclusive. This achievement, led by the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET), aligns with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33 and the UAE’s Year of Community.
Awarded by the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES), the certification highlights Dubai’s citywide efforts to support autistic and sensory-sensitive visitors. More than 70,000 individuals, including staff at over 300 hotels and major attractions, received autism awareness training. Sensory guides, hidden disability lanyards, and visitor support initiatives were key parts of the transformation.
Dubai International Airport (DXB) played a big role, training 45,000 staff and becoming the first international airport to earn the Certified Autism Center™ title. Emirates airline also became the world’s first Certified Autism Airline™, with over 30,000 cabin crew and airport staff trained.

Major attractions like Expo City Dubai, Motiongate Dubai, and The Green Planet have all been certified, ensuring an inclusive experience across the city. Visitors can now also use the free IBCCES Accessibility App for real-time guidance on sensory-friendly spaces across Dubai.
Officials say this milestone is only the beginning. Dubai plans to keep expanding its inclusive tourism efforts, making it even easier for every visitor to enjoy the city with confidence.
His Excellency Issam Kazim, CEO of DCTCM, said the recognition reinforces Dubai’s commitment to accessibility. IBCCES Chairman Myron Pincomb praised Dubai for setting a global standard.
As Dubai continues to lead the way, it invites visitors from around the world to experience a city that’s truly open to everyone.
