DUBAI: Dubai has topped the Global Power City Index (GPCI) for city cleanliness for the fifth consecutive year, showcasing its unwavering commitment to sustainability and urban excellence.
The ranking, issued by Japan’s Institute for Urban Strategies at the Mori Memorial Foundation, reflects Dubai’s achievement of 100% satisfaction in city cleanliness under the environment pillar, outperforming 47 global cities.
This milestone is a testament to Dubai Municipality’s integrated strategies aligned with the Dubai Integrated Waste Management Strategy 2041, which aims for an 18% reduction in waste production and 100% waste diversion from landfills by 2041. Supported by over 3,200 dedicated staff and 855 advanced vehicles, Dubai ensures cleanliness and sustainability across its 2,400 kilometres of roads, 33.4 kilometres of waterways, and residential and industrial zones.
Marwan bin Ghalita, Acting Director General of Dubai Municipality, praised this achievement, highlighting the UAE leadership’s vision for Dubai as the world’s best city to live and work. “Leadership and excellence are built on teamwork, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to the highest standards,” he said.
The Municipality integrates cutting-edge technologies, such as smart waste management systems and electric vehicles, to optimise operations, reduce carbon emissions, and conserve natural resources. Public-private collaboration and community participation also play key roles in upholding Dubai’s global standing.
Dubai’s comprehensive daily cleaning programmes include waste treatment, abandoned vehicle removal, and e-services for household furniture disposal. These efforts preserve the city’s world-class infrastructure and promote environmental sustainability.
With a vision of creating a sustainable, high-quality urban environment, Dubai Municipality remains committed to enhancing residents’ happiness and ensuring the city continues to set a benchmark for future cities worldwide.
