DUBAI: Dubai has significantly strengthened its green transport infrastructure, now offering over 1,270 electric vehicle (EV) charging points across the emirate, according to HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA). This achievement reaffirms the city’s leadership in sustainable mobility and its commitment to becoming a global model for smart, eco-friendly urban living.
These charging stations are part of DEWA’s broader EV Green Charger initiative, launched in 2014 as the region’s first public charging infrastructure network for electric vehicles. In collaboration with public and private sector partners, the network continues to expand, offering fast, ultra-fast and wall-box charging options at key locations including those managed by Parkin.
The emirate now supports a growing community of over 40,600 EVs as of mid-2025, a milestone aligned with Dubai’s Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and its Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050. These efforts aim to ensure that electric and hybrid vehicles make up 50% of all cars on UAE roads by 2050.
To regulate this expansion, DEWA has implemented a Licensing Framework for Independent Charge Point Operators, providing a structured approach for the development and operation of EV infrastructure. The dual-track model encourages both DEWA-led projects and private investment in the sector.
DEWA also unveiled the Dubai EV Community Hub website to boost awareness and adoption. Users can locate chargers using DEWA’s smart app, official website or 14 other digital platforms. Guest mode access allows unregistered users to conveniently use the network, making EV charging more accessible for residents and visitors.
These initiatives place Dubai at the forefront of the region’s electric mobility evolution, enabling smarter, cleaner transport options that support the city’s long-term sustainability goals.
