Dubai Municipality has launched the world’s first self-service lab for testing gold and precious metal purity, revolutionising trade standards and consumer trust.

DUBAI: In a global first, Dubai Municipality has unveiled a smart, self-service laboratory device that tests the purity of gold, silver, and platinum in under one minute, with no human intervention. The new innovation, launched at GITEX Global 2025, cements Dubai’s status as a world-leading hub for the gold and jewellery industry.

The Dubai smart gold lab uses AI-powered technology, spectroscopic analysis, and X-ray systems to deliver instant, accurate results. Developed by Dubai Central Laboratory in collaboration with Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group, the solution is designed to elevate consumer trust and operational efficiency across the precious metals sector.

“This innovation marks a transformative leap in how precious metals are tested and verified,” said Dr. Naseem Mohammed Rafi, Acting CEO of the Environment, Health and Safety Agency at Dubai Municipality. “It sets a new benchmark for speed, reliability, and technical precision in laboratory testing.”

The self-service device is fully autonomous, offering advanced features such as remote performance monitoring, self-calibration, and predictive maintenance. Its intelligent design ensures user safety, traceability, and seamless integration with Dubai Municipality’s laboratory information systems.

Eng. Hind Mahmoud Ahmed, Director of the Dubai Central Laboratory Department, added that the project was guided by strategic technical criteria focused on innovation, security, and digital excellence. “We’ve prioritised customer experience and usability, delivering a solution that meets Dubai’s future-forward vision for smart public services.”

The first installation of the smart device will take place at the iconic Gold Souk in Deira, with plans for further rollout at strategic trade points across the emirate. The Dubai smart gold lab is part of a broader initiative to create a fully integrated, AI-enabled ecosystem that boosts market confidence and global competitiveness.

Dubai’s approach to smart laboratory services continues to support its role as a trusted gateway for the international precious metals trade, ensuring product authenticity and safeguarding consumer rights through cutting-edge technology.
