ABU DHABI: The UAE has once again clinched the top global rank in fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) coverage, achieving a record-breaking 99.5% coverage, according to the 2024 FTTH Council Europe report. It’s the eighth consecutive year the country has held the number one spot, ahead of South Korea (96.6%) and China (93.6%).
This feat is powered by e& UAE, the country’s leading telecom provider, whose “Fiber-First” strategy is redefining internet infrastructure. With over 14.5 million kilometres of fibre-optic cabling—long enough to circle Earth 360 times—e& UAE now provides high-speed broadband to 2.88 million homes across the Emirates.
The company has not just stopped at homes. New solutions like Fibre-to-the-Yacht (FTTY) and Fibre-to-the-Room (FTTR) are expanding high-speed internet to marinas and every room in tech-savvy homes. So yes, even your yacht can stream 4K without buffering.

CEO Masood M. Sharif Mahmood credited this milestone to long-term investment that started way back in 1986, when fibre-optic tech was first introduced to the UAE. By 2011, Abu Dhabi had become the first capital globally to be fully covered by a fibre network.
This world-first achievement supports the UAE’s broader digital transformation goals, ensuring fast, reliable, and secure internet for smart cities, future tech, and enhanced quality of life.
The success aligns with the vision of the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority, reinforcing the UAE’s position as a global leader in digital infrastructure and innovation.
With eyes now on the future, e& UAE continues to lead the way, connecting not just homes—but lifestyles—to tomorrow.
