DUBAI: His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Future Foundation, has approved the launch of the ‘Dubai Research, Development, and Innovation (RDI) Grant Initiative’. This new initiative aims to provide crucial funding for research projects that will drive advancements in Dubai’s key economic sectors.

The RDI Grant Initiative is a major part of the Dubai Research and Development Program, which was launched in September 2022. This program, led by the Dubai Future Foundation, seeks to create a framework to foster innovative RDI activities in Dubai. It focuses on managing and investing in RDI projects and increasing local R&D spending while encouraging private sector investment.

Sheikh Hamdan stated, “Research and development are essential for achieving Dubai’s vision for the future. We are committed to supporting projects that will help us lead globally in all scientific fields.” He also expressed the aim of making Dubai a top city for scientists and researchers, emphasizing the need for strong public-private partnerships and collaboration with universities and research institutions.

The ‘Dubai RDI Grant Initiative’ will support up to 20 research projects in its next phase. The initiative will prioritize two sectors: Cognitive Cities and Health and Life Sciences, with a focus on Cross-cutting Technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Robotics Systems. Research areas for Cognitive Cities include Smart Mobility and Traffic Management, while Health and Life Sciences will cover topics such as Precision Medicine and Cell-Cultured Foods. AI applications will focus on Fintech and Natural Language Processing, and Robotics will explore innovations in Logistics, Construction, and Healthcare.
