Emirates: The Rulers of the Emirates have expressed their condolences to President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on the passing of his uncle late Sheikh Tahnoun bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Ruler’s Representative in Al Ain Region.
They also extended their sympathies to the UAE President and the Al Nahyan family and asked Allah Almighty to grant the deceased eternal peace in Paradise.
All the courts also declared an official seven-day mourning period in the respective emirates, during which UAE flags will be flown at half-mast.
A legacy of commitment and dedication
Late Sheikh Tahnoun bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, who passed away today, was a highly esteemed figure in the United Arab Emirates, particularly in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain Region. He held several key positions of authority and responsibility, including serving as the Abu Dhabi Ruler’s Representative in Al Ain Region, Vice Chairman of the Executive Council of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), and Vice Chairman of the Supreme Petroleum Council.
In November 2018, the road connecting Al Ain and Dubai was renamed in his honor, reflecting the deep respect and appreciation for his contributions.
Sheikh Tahnoun was connected to the ruling family through his sister’s marriage to Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founding father of the UAE. He shared a close relationship with Sheikh Zayed, gaining valuable experience and knowledge from him. Sheikh Tahnoun’s service to the Emirates began early, as he assumed his first official position in 1966, just after Sheikh Zayed became the ruler of Abu Dhabi.
He played a significant role in the establishment of the UAE, working tirelessly alongside Sheikh Zayed. His contributions were pivotal in various sectors, including agriculture, municipality, and oil, where he held influential positions. Throughout his career, Sheikh Tahnoun remained deeply connected to the people of Al Ain, actively engaging with their concerns and joys.
His legacy is marked by his dedication to public service and his profound impact on the development and well-being of the Emirates, particularly in Al Ain. Sheikh Tahnoun bin Mohammed Al Nahyan will be remembered fondly for his exemplary leadership and commitment to the welfare of his people.
