DUBAI: In a major push to strengthen infrastructure and tackle climate risks, Dubai has awarded new mega drainage stormwater contracts worth AED1.439 billion as part of its ambitious Tasreef project.

The contracts, issued by Dubai Municipality, cover four massive drainage projects aimed at expanding and upgrading the city’s stormwater network. The focus keyphrase Tasreef project appears throughout the announcement, reflecting its importance in Dubai’s long-term urban planning.

These projects are part of Dubai’s strategy to build future-ready, climate-resilient infrastructure. Areas like Nad Al Hamar, Dubai International Airport, Al Quoz, Zabeel, and Jumeirah will soon see new stormwater lines stretching over 36 kilometres. These will connect to the main Tasreef tunnel, boosting the network’s capacity and cutting long-term maintenance and operating costs.

Acting Director General of Dubai Municipality, Eng. Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, confirmed that this marks a milestone in implementing the Tasreef project. The upgrades are expected to increase the drainage system’s discharge capacity by a staggering 700% over the next 100 years.

Tasreef is not just about fixing pipes—it’s part of a strategic AED30 billion plan to future-proof the city. The goal? To reduce flooding, enhance services, and position Dubai among the world’s most advanced cities in infrastructure.

The mega project also aims to cut construction and operating costs of stormwater systems by 20%, while improving lifespan and resilience. It’s an engineering feat with long-term impact—transforming how Dubai manages water, sustainability, and urban growth.
