UAE citizens can now renew passports a whole year before they expire, making travel and official paperwork easier.

ABU DHABI: Good news for UAE citizens — you can now renew your passport much earlier than before. The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP) has announced that starting Monday, August 18, 2025, the renewal window will be extended from six months to one year before your passport expires.

This means if your passport is set to expire anytime within the next 12 months, you can apply for a new one right away. The update makes it easier to plan trips well in advance and ensures there are no delays with official paperwork that requires a valid passport.

The change was confirmed by ICP Chairman Ali Mohammed Al Shamsi, who said the move will improve convenience for citizens, reduce last-minute stress, and make better use of secure digital passport services. Renewals can be done online through the ICP’s smart services platform.

The UAE passport is already one of the strongest in the world, giving citizens access to many countries without a visa. This new rule is expected to make it even easier for Emiratis to travel smoothly and handle government transactions on time.
