Abu Dhabi: On Tuesday, the United Arab Emirates will host the second regional workshop aimed at combating the unlawful trade and proliferation of small arms and light weapons among member states of the League of Arab States (LAS).

Taking place over three days at the Fairmont Bab Al Bahr Hotel in Abu Dhabi, the workshop will feature the participation of key figures such as Fadi Achaia, Director of the Department of Arms Control and Disarmament at League of Arab States; Glenn McDonald, Coordinator of the EU-LAS Project; and representatives of Arab countries, the International Criminal Police Organisation – INTERPOL, and the World Customs Organisation (WCO).

Led by Mohamed Suhail Al Neyadi, Director-General of the Weapons and Hazardous Substances Office of the Supreme Council for National Security, the UAE delegation will contribute to efforts aimed at bolstering national capabilities across Arab countries to counter the illicit trade and proliferation of small arms and light weapons.

This workshop builds on previous initiatives, including a series of comprehensive training courses dedicated to combating the trafficking and illicit spread of small arms and light weapons in Arab countries.

These endeavors are part of the second phase of the collaboration project the League of Arab States and the European Union under the EU-LAS Project.

Four training courses, held in Abu Dhabi from January to May, aimed at graduating a total of 200 trainees.
