Dubai: RTA is improving Umm Suqeim Street to keep up with the city’s growth and meet the needs of its residents. The project, which costs AED 332 million, extends from the intersection with Al Khail Road to the intersection with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road.

This initiative is part of the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and is overseen by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The Director-General of RTA, Mattar Al Tayer, emphasized that the project is essential for better connections between east-west and north-south streets in Dubai.

The project, spanning 4.6 km, includes the construction of an 800-meter tunnel and a signalized intersection near Kings School. The goal is to improve traffic flow and reduce travel time between Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Al Khail Road. It will also benefit residential areas like Al Barsha South and Dubai Hills, with an estimated population of about two million people.

The RTA completed the initial phase of the project in 2013, including the construction of bridges and pedestrian crossings. In 2020, a central bridge was opened as part of the ongoing efforts to enhance the road network in the Dubai Hills and Al Barsha areas, capable of accommodating up to 16,000 vehicles per hour. The overall aim is to create smoother traffic flow and improve connectivity between major roads in Dubai in Umm Suqeim Street.
