Arab League marks Population and Development Day with warning that ongoing wars are draining Arab human and economic resources.
CAIRO: The Arab League has issued a stern warning on the impact of escalating conflicts and occupation in the region, stating that such instability continues to threaten the development trajectory of Arab countries. In a statement marking the Arab Day for Population and Development, the League underscored that human capital remains the foundation for true progress.
The General Secretariat highlighted that continued regional wars and the practices of the Israeli occupation are depleting the Arab world’s most valuable asset—its people. The conflicts not only delay social and economic growth but also divert vital resources away from education, health, and public welfare towards military expenditure.
Calling for urgent international cooperation, the League’s statement stressed the importance of shielding populations from the long-term effects of conflict. It argued that redirecting focus towards sustainable development goals, particularly for the region’s youth, is essential for securing lasting prosperity.
“Youth and creative minds are the real wealth of our societies,” the statement read, reinforcing the idea that peace and stability are prerequisites for nurturing innovation, education, and inclusive economic development across the Arab world.
The Arab League urged stakeholders and global actors to support policies that foster peace and redirect funding to development sectors, warning that the continued erosion of Arab human capital could delay the region’s future for generations.
