Participants from 30 countries took part in the 23rd Moscow International Quran Recitation Competition, showcasing mastery in Tajweed and melodious recitation.
MOSCOW: The 23rd International Quran Recitation Competition was held at the grand Moscow Cathedral Mosque, drawing talented Quran reciters from 30 countries in a prestigious gathering of spiritual artistry and devotion. Organised under the blessing of Ravil Gainutdin, Chairman of the Spiritual Board of Muslims of Russia, the event celebrated the revered tradition of expressive and precise Quran recitation.
Held in the ‘Tilyava’ category, the competition focused on the melodious and technically perfect recitation of the Holy Quran, following the rules of Tajweed — the discipline of correct pronunciation and vocal modulation. Many of the participants were seasoned champions of national Quran contests in their respective countries.
Mufti Rushan Abbyasov, Deputy Chairman of the Council of Muftis of Russia, described the event as one showcasing “true masters of the craft,” adding that many participants were Hafiz — those who have memorised the entire Quran — and displayed exceptional skill in delivering the sacred verses with clarity, beauty, and reverence.
Among the contestants was Hafiz Tamim Al-Kindi from the UAE, who described this year’s competition as especially intense, praising the high standards of his fellow reciters. Ali Al-Otaibi of Saudi Arabia echoed similar sentiments, noting the outstanding performances by Russian participants and the “fierce level of competition.”
The grand finale and awards ceremony is set to take place on Saturday at the Cosmos Hotel Concert Hall, followed by a spiritual theatrical presentation titled “Feat of Faith,” designed to reflect the unity and cultural richness of the participating nations.
The Moscow International Quran Recitation Competition continues to serve as a powerful platform for cross-cultural appreciation, artistic religious expression, and the preservation of a cherished oral tradition.
