Two American women trying to fly from Rome to Nice, France, ended up in Tunis, Tunisia, after a hilarious airport misunderstanding.

ROME: What was supposed to be a quick hop to the French Riviera turned into a full-on North African adventure for two American travellers — all thanks to a mix-up between Nice (pronounced neese) and Tunis (pronounced too-neese).

Brittney Dzialo and her friend missed their original flight from Rome to Nice. When asking airline staff to rebook them, they said they wanted to fly “to Nice.” But instead of being directed to a French carrier, they were sent to Tunisair — and unknowingly bought tickets to Tunis, Tunisia.

It wasn’t until they were on board that the penny dropped. “Is this going to Nice?” one of the women asked a passenger. The reply? “Tunis, yeah.” Cue confusion, frantic Googling, and the dawning realisation that they were heading to an entirely different continent.

Too late to get off, they landed in Tunis and spent several hours sorting out the mess with airline staff before finally catching a flight to their intended destination. Of course, the entire ordeal was captured on TikTok, where clips of the misadventure went viral with tens of millions of views.

While many users laughed at the comedy of errors, others weren’t buying it. Commenters questioned how the pair could miss so many red flags, from the destination listed on their tickets to the giant departure screens at the gate.

Regardless, the video has become the latest travel viral, proving once again that a little miscommunication can lead to an unforgettable detour.
