LONDON: Legendary heavy metal singer Ozzy Osbourne, famously known as the Prince of Darkness, has died at the age of 76. The former Black Sabbath frontman passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Tuesday, according to a statement released by his wife Sharon and children Jack, Kelly, Aimee and Louis.
“It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning,” the family wrote. “He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time.”
Osbourne’s death follows more than five years after he publicly revealed his Parkinson’s disease diagnosis. Just weeks ago, he made his final appearance with Black Sabbath in their hometown of Birmingham, England.
Widely celebrated as a pioneer of heavy metal, Osbourne’s influence shaped the genre across decades. He also became known for his outrageous antics—from biting the head off a dove during a 1981 record label meeting to his infamous on-stage bat incident in 1982.
Despite a string of controversies, including an arrest for urinating on a war memorial in Texas, Ozzy’s career soared. He successfully launched a solo music journey and became a reality TV sensation with “The Osbournes,” the MTV show that aired from 2002 to 2005.
His colourful personality, musical legacy, and raw authenticity cemented his place as one of rock’s most enduring figures. Tributes are pouring in from around the world as fans and fellow musicians mourn the loss of an icon.
