Test Twenty, cricket’s bold fourth format, combines tradition and T20 speed, launching globally in January 2026.
INDIA: Cricket is entering a transformative era with the global unveiling of Test Twenty cricket format, an innovative new structure designed to combine the depth of Test matches with the thrill of T20s. Announced jointly in Dubai and London, the 80-over, two-innings format is set to debut in January 2026 across six franchises, with Dubai, London, and a U.S. city joining three Indian teams in the inaugural line-up.
Brainchild of Gaurav Bahirvani, Executive Chairman of the One One Six Network, Test Twenty is described as the sport’s “Fourth Format.” It’s a full-day event that retains classical results like win, loss, tie, or draw, while compressing the traditional game into a modern, broadcast-friendly package.
“This isn’t just another league — it’s a tribute to the spirit of cricket,” said Bahirvani. The format has received powerful endorsements from cricket legends like AB de Villiers, Sir Clive Lloyd, Matthew Hayden, and Harbhajan Singh, all of whom sit on its advisory board. De Villiers hailed it as “a new dream for players and fans,” while Lloyd called it “modern energy with classic rhythm.”
The Test Twenty cricket format aims to build a global pathway for players aged 13–19. Its Junior Test Twenty Championship (JTTC) will span 50+ countries, using AI and video analytics to scout young talent through a transparent, data-driven process. Registrations for players opened on 17 October 2025 at www.testwenty.com/register.
With former Rajasthan Royals CEO Michael Fordham onboard as COO and major international venues confirmed, the platform is poised to revolutionise youth cricket. Bahirvani noted: “We are creating a merit-based, NCAA-style cricket ecosystem — the first of its kind.”
By blending technology, legacy, and youth engagement, the Test Twenty cricket format sets a new standard for the game’s future.
