ALGIERS: The UAE has called for greater Arab parliamentary cooperation in tackling urgent regional crises, particularly the worsening humanitarian situation in Palestine. Addressing the 38th Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU) conference in Algiers, the Federal National Council (FNC) emphasised that Arab parliamentary action is vital in the face of growing political instability, economic pressures, climate change, and rising technological challenges.
Delivering the UAE’s statement, Dr. Tariq Humaid Al Tayer, First Deputy Speaker of the FNC, highlighted the need to enhance dialogue, solidarity, and collective responsibility. He urged Arab nations to strengthen joint efforts through parliamentary diplomacy, humanitarian support, and peaceful solutions.
Central to the UAE’s message was the Palestinian cause, which Dr. Al Tayer described as a defining moral issue. He condemned the ongoing Israeli siege on Gaza, the forced displacement of Palestinians, and the massive humanitarian disaster unfolding. With Gaza’s conflict now in its second year, he warned of a total collapse in aid systems and civilian safety.
The UAE reiterated its strong support for the Palestinian people through political and humanitarian means, including “Operation Chivalrous Knight 3.” Dr. Al Tayer firmly rejected collective punishment and settlement policies by Israel, calling for an immediate ceasefire, release of hostages, and a return to peaceful negotiations. He reinforced the two-state solution as the only viable path to lasting peace.
He concluded with a call to reform Arab parliamentary frameworks, adopt proactive strategies, and build international partnerships. As global dynamics shift, he said, the AIPU must act as a united, forward-looking platform to protect the region’s interests and restore trust in Arab-led action.
